CLOGS, LEAKS, AND DRAINS

ms-plumbing-sinkClogs happen in most everyone’s home and they occur for a variety of reasons. Sink, tub, and toilet clogs can be relatively simple – and can often be cleared with a plunger. When all the drains in your home are clogged and backing up, it’s time to call the professionals at Marlin Services. Leave the big jobs to the experts and have your repairs, leaks, and clogs taken care of as they occur. It’s best not to wait and take a chance of leaks damaging walls, floors, cabinets, and more.

It takes a professional plumber to clear main line clogs and repair or replace pipe damage. In the case of tree roots growing through main line pipes, the professionals can bore through roots to clear the main line for clear running pipes.

When main line pipes start to deteriorate, you’ll need the plumber to replace those pipes for you. Indoor pipes are simpler to repair than the underground drain lines.

NOTE: Homeowners are responsible for the repair, maintenance, drain clearing, and pipe replacement on their own property. The homeowner is responsible for pipes, starting at the connection point of the city sewer system as well as those leading to the house and including home’s plumbing situation. This includes lateral lines and all main line plumbing in the home.

THINK PREVENTION WHEN IT COMES TO DRAINS:

  • Avoid using toilets to throw away trash
  • Avoid disposing of wipes, feminine hygiene products, diapers, matches, paper towels, cotton tips, etc., into toilets
  • Keep bathroom drains clear of hair clogs
  • Be mindful of the foods disposed of in food disposers

At Marlin, we know the importance of a well-running plumbing system, and we recommend keeping your pipes and drains in good working order for your best comfort and efficiency. Repair immediately, replace as needed, and maintain on a regular basis.

ENERGY LOSS & ASSOCIATED COSTS CAN BE ATTRIBUTED TO AIR LEAKS & INSUFFICIENT INSULATION

ms-energyAccording to ENERGY STAR®, one of the most cost-effective ways to increase your home’s energy efficiency is to improve the building “envelope,” which consists of outer walls, windows, floors, ceiling, and other openings. A residential envelope that is properly sealed and has proper insulation can have a significant effect on your monthly utility costs and energy efficiency. Approximately 20% of air moving through a typical residential AC duct system is wasted due to leaky ducts, and improperly sealed connections.

It’s a good practice to have your air ducts checked and have leaks sealed when your air conditioner is professionally tuned up each year. Insulation can be checked and replenished as needed. It’s also a good practice to have air leaks around windows and doors caulked, and weather-stripped. Check and add insulation as needed to help improve your home comfort

Sealing air leaks and weather stripping can benefit other areas of your home:

  • Decreases pollen, dust, and insects from entering the home
  • Helps control humidity indoors
  • Increases indoor air quality
  • Reduces noise from the outdoors
  • Helps optimize indoor comfort

In general, most homes in this country have a significant number of air leaks and don’t have enough insulation. The sum of air leaks, holes, and gaps in the typical home envelope is equivalent to leaving your windows open every day.

It’s to your benefit to have your ducts checked and sealed, and to properly insulate your home for keeping it warm in winter and cool in the summer. Stay comfortable!
