THE HEAT IS ON – SAVE $$ AND ENERGY

ms energy efficientWhen it comes to your air conditioning system in and around Phoenix, we all know it can eat your lunch in summer utility bills. The reminders can get redundant, however if you take action and utilize these tips, you can actually save money and energy this summer.

First and foremost, be sure to have regular maintenance performed on your AC equipment 1 to 2 times per year. Regular maintenance on your AC equipment keeps the equipment cleaned up, tuned up and running at its peak for the duration of the summer heat. When the unit is operating smoothly and at the highest levels performance – you experience the most comfort, savings and energy efficiencies. Now doesn’t that sound amazing?

Another performance enhancing activity is to replace the air filter every month. This is one of the easiest ways to help lower the energy consumption of your AC by 5-15%. Additionally, it helps keep the inside air quality cleaner and the home more comfortable year around.

Additional Tips for Air Conditioning Efficiencies and Savings:

  • Install a programmable thermostat. Using a programmable thermostat properly can save approximately $180 per year in energy costs.
  • Thermostat settings for summer are best set at as high a temperature as is comfortable, and control the inside humidity as best you can. For a lower cooling bill, keep as small a difference between the indoor and outdoor temperatures as possible.
  • Reduce air conditioning energy use 20-50% by switching to a new high efficiency air conditioner as needed.
  • Seal ducts to improve the energy efficiency of your AC system – it can save 20% and even more.
  • Keep lamps, TVs and other heat-bearing appliances away from your thermostat.
  • Use ceiling fans to cool people – turn fans off when leaving a room. Fans save $$ since an AC costs much more to operate. When using fans raise the thermostat 3-4 degrees, depending on your comfort level.

Remember, for best AC performance, regular maintenance and repair on your AC equipment will clean up and tune up the unit for a season of smooth operations and energy savings.

Be cool and comfortable in your home!

New DOE Water Heater Regulations – More Efficient

27
Jul

water heater regulationsThis spring the U.S. Department of Energy mandated new efficiency standards on water heaters. This means water heaters manufactured after April 16, 2015 may have more sophisticated designs and may potentially be larger than previous models.

The new regulations require a higher energy factor (EF) rating on gas, electric, oil, and tankless water heaters. On a water heater, the energy factor (EF) indicates the overall energy efficiency, based on the amount of hot water produced per unit of fuel consumed in a typical day. The higher the EF, the more efficiently the water heater converts power into hot water while reducing losses… and the more money you save on overall energy costs.

For homeowners the good news is the new water heaters save more energy, increase performance and efficiency over the life of the system, and lower operating costs. Read more here: http://bit.ly/1bbMfs5

MS drain clearing

Many people don’t even think about the care of their plumbing system until it becomes an issue. As with most other major household systems, every plumbing system needs regular care and maintenance for best day-to-day performance – and most of all to help keep your household running smoothly. Rather than wait until you need emergency service, it’s good to know the key areas of your home to check for leaks.

At Home, Watch For:
• Areas where leaks can occur, such as: kitchen and bath faucets, pipes under sinks, showers and bathtubs. Check these areas periodically. The sooner water leaks are detected, the better off you are. It’s best to have plumbing repairs taken care of immediately so as not to incur additional damage and expense. Allowing small leaks to continue, there is greater potential of damaging floors, drywall and fixtures.

When to Call Your Plumber:
• Once water pressure is noticeably low, there is a change in the color of water, or when there are slow draining sinks, showers and tubs… Call your plumber at Marlin Services for professional service and repair 24/7.

What to Watch For:
• Excess water on the floor, loose tiles on tub surround, or damp walls hours after a bath.
• Kitchen sinks and toilets with discolored water, or faucets making rattling sounds when water is running.
• Plumbing leaks can be a substantial expense, when left untreated. We encourage you to check for signs of leaks and plumbing concerns regularly and especially before leaving home on vacation.

EFFICIENT AIRFLOW – The LIFELINE OF YOUR AC SYSTEM

Duct 2

Your cooling system operates efficiently when the proper AC equipment is used and sized for your building, the ductwork is professionally designed for the space, quality ductwork materials are used, and professional installation is utilized. Efficient airflow is the lifeline of any HVAC system.

Ductwork has three purposes: Supply Air, Return Air, Exhaust Air, and to provide ventilation that promotes healthy indoor air quality and thermal comfort all year long.

Between 400 and 700 cubic feet per minute of conditioned air circulates through the ducts of a typical home. In many homes, up to 30% of that air is wasted and does not even reach the rooms it’s intended for. Inefficiencies in ductwork can be due to duct leaks, thermal loss, and imbalanced pressure that cause air loss in the duct system.

Ductwork design done right is calculated by professionals who use industry software and professional installation. Have your ductwork fabricated using quality materials, and keep duct maintained with periodic checks for leaks.

For best results it is essential that the ductwork be designed for each building at the time of planning and construction. New AC units can be retrofit to your current duct by your professional air conditioning contractor, Marlin Services.

Well designed and installed duct systems operate at their best, and they can save you substantial energy and $$. Remember to periodically have your ducts checked for air leaks and have them repaired quickly.

Stay cool and comfortable this summer!
